It was the Gunners’ first defeat of the Premier League season, with the goal one of the biggest controversial moments this term.

After the match, Arteta labelled the decision as ’embarrassing’ and a ‘disgrace’ in a passionate rant when speaking to the media.

Nearly two weeks later, the FA announced that the Arsenal boss has been charged for his comments.

A statement read: “Mikel Arteta has been charged with a breach of FA Rile E3.1 following comments he made in media interviews after Arsenal’s Premier League game against Newcastle on Saturday 4 November.

“It’s alleged that his comments constitute misconduct as they are insulting towards match officials and/or detrimental to the game and/or bring the game into disrepute.

“Mikel Arteta has until Tuesday 21 November to provide a response to this charge.”

VAR checked Gordon’s goal for the ball going out of play, a push from Joelinton on Gabriel and an offside, but it was allowed to stand.

Amid his anger at the result, Arteta said: “I have praised my players for the way they played and competed in this stadium against this team.
