Cole Palmer’s cheeky attempt to eavesdrop on his former Manchester City teammates was promptly snuffed out by Erling Haaland.
Chelsea star Palmer lined up against his former side as the two sides played out a thrilling 4-4 draw in one of the great Premier League matches of recent times.
Palmer ended up having the final say as his stoppage-time penalty denied his previous employers the three points and put a dent in City’s bid for a fourth successive Premier League title.
It was a fine display by the 21-year-old forward, who earlier almost scored a sensational solo goal as he weaved through multiple City players, but his shot lacked the panache to beat Ederson.
But some footage that emerged moments after his goal showed a more crafty side to Palmer.
City stars Jack Grealish, Ruben Dias, Kyle Walker, Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden gathered round on the pitch for a mini on-pitch team talk and Palmer made his way over.
But Haaland saw what Palmer was trying to do and jogged over before pushing the Manchester-born star away from the conversation.
However, the footage appears to suggest Haaland saw the funny side as he wore a smile while doing the push.

Haaland put Pep Guardiola’s side ahead with a controversial penalty but goals from Thiago Silva and ex-City man Raheem Sterling turned the game on its head.
Manuel Akanji levelled the scores moments before the break before Haaland put City ahead again in the early minutes of the second half.
Nicolas Jackson’s strike on the rebound made it 3-3 midway through the second half but Rodri’s deflected effort appeared to have won the game for City.
That was until Palmer stepped up to slot past Ederson from 12 yards in the fifth minute of stoppage time after Ruben Dias brought down Armando Broja in the City box.
