Manchester City ahead Phil Foden won all of the adult honours in 2023/24 but did not in 2024/25, which gave us pause for the person of the year defenses. Foden is right up there with
There have been a few bad ones. The worst Premier League games have already happened four times.
Phil Foden ( 2024/25 )
It has been a very unusual season for Manchester City. After scoring 36 in 45 in 2022/23 and 27 in 31 in 2023/24, Erling Haaland is already on 21 targets after 28 Premier League matches. That is a very impressive record but when you set such high standardscoupled with Mohamed Salahs outrageous formnobody is impressed anymore. Foden, who won the PFA People Player of the Year, FWA Footballer of the Year, and Premier League Player of the Year awards for his achievements in 2023/24, is another City person who has set a very large normal. He scored a buckle in the 3-1 get over West Ham on the last moment, earning Pep Guardiola’s men 19 points with his target involvements, and was essential in the name victory over Arsenal.
Foden struggled to get going after a disappointing European Championship campaign with England until a string of goals in January, when he hit a brick wall once more. The 24-year-old’s just goals in City’s first 19 group activities came in a corner kick against Wolves and a sour compassion at Aston Villa. The supposed best Premier League player was being met with questions, but he seemed to be getting out casually, perhaps as a result of reigning champions City’s general lack of general excellence and Rodri’s injury-stricken Ballon dOr success.
It would seem likely that the reigning Premier League Player of the Season had the ability to have an underperforming team or at least sustain his personal performance level in the absence of his teammates. Foster’s and City’s name defense not going as planned, which has made it impossible for him to do.
Foden is in the spotlight after a poor performance in Thomas Tuchels first England match against Albania. Bukayo Saka, who was hurt but failed brilliantly, gave the City star the chance to demonstrate his worth as the best right-wing player for the Three Lions, and people then wonder why Tuchel even called him up. Based on his resume, did he merit a call-up? Definitely no. Nobody is deny Morgan Gibbs-White as being superior to him. Foden has played on the left, center, and correctly for England, but unlike Saka, whose poor form as a student in the worst Arsenal part for decades, puts Foden’s 2024/25 effort to shame. Why can’t Foden play with the same elite levels people that have won numerous Premier League names while Saka can do so surrounded by mid-table people? City can win the title of” 19659010,” earn a spot in the Champions League, and earn three more league goals to complete the campaign, but those two accomplishments will not help his player of the year defense win.
Eden Hazard ( 2015/16)
What a person this man was, by the way. Under Jose Mourinho’s leadership, Eden Hazard was at his most incredible during Chelsea’s 2014/2015 title defense, but he decided to take a year off as a reward, which led to Mourinho losing his job and helping the Blues record their third-worst performanceagainst the reigning champion in Premier League history. Under The Special One, Chelsea won a second division title, and Hazard was undisputedly the best person in the department. His 14 goals and nine aids did not fully capture the character of a person who had never before played football in England and had Lionel Messi-like moves. He was completely pointless the following year, according to
. A month of determined censure was endured by the reigning leaders, PFA Players Player of the Year, FWA Footballer of the Year, and Premier League Player of the Year. The French, who scored a sympathy charges against MK Dons in the FA Cup third round at the end of January, did not report a target in any opposition until his 30th appearance. His first Premier League target came at Bournemouth in April, where he managed to score a buckle and finish the plan with four. Hazard was one of three players branded rats by an infamous fan banner. Despite his flaws in 2015/16, Hazard also managed to score one of the team’s most famous goals to put an end to Tottenham Hotspur’s name issue and make Leicester City doubtful champions. The Stamford Bridge finish line will remain rehashed for many, many times. Oh, and Hazard was up to his best after that terrible plan. Under Antonio Conte, he scored 16 goals as Chelsea recorded 93 items. Riyad Mahrez’s 2016/17]Dirt player of the year defenses that coincide with the rubbish Premier League title defenses make sense, and that’s certainly the case with both Mahrez and Hazard in Leicester City’s joyous campaign. In Leicester’s immoral name win in 2016,
Mahrez was outstanding, winning both Jamie Vardy and Jamie Vardy both the Premier League Player of the Year and the FWA Footballer of the Year. Team-mates Robert Huth and NGolo Kante were also honored as the Foxes pair’s Group of the Year. In the summer, the latter would switch to Chelsea and compete for successive names against various groups. He is the only Premier League player to have accomplished this ( Mark Schwarzer is by no means available ).
The Libyan wing and Vardy stayed put, and Leicester did not even attempt to reclaim their name, falling to Hull City on game one and finishing the battle with 44 points in 12th place, their second-worst title defense ever, despite them defending a Division One king. It is still being counted, we continue. Still, Schwarzer is not to be taken into account. In addition to registering six goals and putting three assists in 36 appearances,
on his own level was nowhere near what we expected. After only five wins from 25, the King Power club performed the unthinkable, quitting Claudio Ranieri, which moved them one point above the relegation zone. The Foxes advanced to the Champions League quarter-final with the help of Craig Shakespeare. After recording 22 goals in 36 games, Mahrez improved in 2017/18 and made the move to Man City, the perennial Premier League champion.[2019/21]Jordan Henderson ( 2020/1 ) ]Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson won the first-ever Premier League title in the 2018/19 season, but it feels strange to look back and see him win the award instead of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, or Roberto Firmino. Let’s pretend that English bias is everything, and let’s play Devil’s Advocate.
Hendersons ‘ decline in form following his nomination as the FWA Footballer of the Year is unmatchable against the other award defenses, and we will make an effort not to make it so that he shouldn’t have won in 2019/2020. The Henderson story’s intriguing quality is that he probably shouldn’t have won it in 2019/20. The England international gained from playing in a terrible XI where everyone contributed their part and then some. The merit of this individual award came more as a testament to Jurgen Klopp’s team’s excellence and Henderson was a formidable player who also performed very well. In 2020/21, Liverpool were absolutely horrendous behind closed doors following their first Premier League triumph
. With Burnley coming in to end a 68-game unbeaten run at home, which just happened to open the floodgates, their imperious Anfield form became flimsy. They would also suffer five straight defeats, including a 4-1 humiliation at Man City and a 1-0 defeat at Fulham, who would lose 28 points. Henderson struggled to inspire and lead like he did the previous campaign, but Liverpool did succeed in achieving a third-place finish with 69 points. The Reds ‘ league title defense can carry some of his weight if the Henderson award in 2019/20 was more of an ode to the team.
